A symposium of speakers, panels, discussions, new scratch pieces by emerging female artists and a new play by Julia Pascal in partnership with the fantastic MK Gallery. 12th, 13th and 14th September.
Taking The Stage- is running alongside the immensely powerful Paula Rego exhibition which opens on 15th June at MK Gallery. Check it out!
We are absolutely delighted to announce that The Play’s The Thing Theatre Company has been awarded funding from the Arts Council and Milton Keynes Community Foundation for this new and very exciting project.
We are also thrilled to tell you that we have commissioned Julia Pascal – the first woman director at The National Theatre – and also an amazing playwright to write a brand new play. Working title is “Three Sisters”. We’ll reveal more soon!
‘Taking the Stage’ will also act as a springboard for new and emerging female talent, who will be staging their scratch pieces. The pieces cover a variety of issues and promise to be very thought provoking. We are so excited”
In addition to this, we will have an incredible line up of panellists to have those critical discussions on topics currently at the forefront of theatre and women in the arts. For example: representation, gender equality, mental health, diversity, parenthood and technology. We also have a young people’s panel and a newly devised piece by students who will be working with the renowned Haste Theatre Company.
This is our chance to celebrate all the great women in theatre, who inspire, mentor, show strength, creativity and passion in their role within our great industry. It also gives us the opportunity to show our commitment to continually push the boundaries for women in the arts for a more equal balance; and to kick start a fair future for the next generation.
There’s still a long way to go, but we think expos and showcases like this will certainly help.
We shall be revealing more details and information as we progress. Tickets will also be on sale shortly through MK Gallery.
