We did it!

Well last Sunday we had an amazing day at the Royal and Derngate Theatre with the final gala performance of “Shoulder To Shoulder”.  It was really special to see it all come together. The day started with everyone doing a tech run and Haste Creative Company and Didcot Girls School installing their installation in the theatre foyer. A series of workshops were also run by Zoo Co, Vamos and Paper Bird

Then in the afternoon Stantonbury students and Zoo Co kicked off the show with “Suffrajitsu” and they really did kick ass!  It was an amazing performance. Stunning.  So much energy, brilliantly choreographed, acted and directed. Well done to all.

Then the Actors’ Company from the Royal and Derngate gave us an insight to their own lives and their views on suffrage and discrimination. Many very moving stories were told.

Next was Abingdon and Witney College working with Vamos , the UK’s leading mask company. Their show “Deeds Not Words” was a modern take on Emily Wilding Davison and again was really quite special and very moving. All without speaking until a voice over at the end. Superbly executed.

Last was our own piece “Shoulder To Shoulder” was a mixture of old and new, serious and comedic mixed in with some music and song.

It was a fabulous day and in my next blog I shall write a more detailed account and have a number of photographs. The two photographers took so many! It’s taking time to go through them!

Here’s a group photo on though and a review

Funders were Arts Council England, Awards For All and Milton Keynes Community Foundation.
We think they will be pleased! We just have to write all the evaluations now.
